That is unheard of in the industrial services industry - except at Mundy.The Safety and Health accomplishments of Mundy crews have been recognized by federal and State Departments of Labor with the OSHA Star. Mundy has been recognized seven times for creating and maintaining OSHA Star Capable Workforces. At every site where our customer partners have been awarded an OSHA Star under the VPP Program, our Mundy Crews have won their own OSHA Star designations. In North Carolina, our crews have been certified and RE-Certified as the first VPP Star resident contractor in the state!

    Mr. Bill King, KoSa Site Manager, says, "Thanks for the excellent job of planning and executing the shutdown associated with the No. 5 heater and D Line. A tremendous amount of work was performedsafely and efficiently allowing us to finish 2 days ahead of schedule.

    John Bogner stated the he tells other companies in North Carolina to go see Mundy if they want to see how things are done safety wise.

    Deputy Commissioner Bob Andrews praised the Mundy employees again for being the first OSHA Star site in the U.S. and a very successful re-certification.

    Mundy Contract Maintenance Inc. recently completed the largest cost plus project ever awarded to a resident facility contractor at the Bay City plant.

    Noel Smith, HCC Project Manager, stated, "The Mundy Companies' performance will be an excellent benchmark for future construction work at the Bay City Plant."

    Billy Willingham, HCC Engineer, along with seventy-five employees from ten different crews were combined on this project which involved the installation of a new line for the water tower. From the tallest scaffold ever erected at this plant (over 120 ft.), to the shoring of the excavations six feet in the ground to make the tie-ins, this job went 'without a hitch'.

    Dave LaVine, Dow Site Safety Process Leader, said, "It is great to have a site where both the owner and the contractor are part of the Voluntary Protection Program. We continue to challenge each other to determine "who can be the safest" and this is how it should be.

    Mr. Ray Skinner, PSHA Area Director, said, "Mundy should be commended for their efforts. You have proof that your safety program is working". Mundy employees at this job site are 86% below the national average for lost time injuries (LTI), and 83% below the national average for Injury Incidence Rate (IIR).

    Andy Taylor and Art Weir, Cryovac, are very impressed with the expertise, professionalism and accuracy of all the employees involved with the electrical installation of the first Racking Machine.

    Corky Godfrey gave nomination to employees for their work on the T-43 Refurbishing project which required excellent communication and cooperation between several crafts. The project was completed ahead of schedule and most importantly without injury.

    Kim Thompson, HCC Project Engineer, recognized Mundy employees for their 'heads-up' observation on a construction project. Platform ladders were relocated to increase accessibility and supports were painted yellow for increased visibility. "I am lucky to have such people to work with that make my job so much easier."

    James V. Walden recognized John Arevalo for his idea of tightening up final product packaging. This idea is an annual savings of $200,000 per year.

    Ann Retherford congratulated everyone involved in the Bagging Line Startup and Installation. Everything was well organized with great communication. Special thanks to Raul Hinojosa for keeping everything under control and moving.

    Neil Hearron said, "Everyone should be commended for their eagerness to produce a quality product. The foremen and crews were always ready and flexible to meet operations and engineering needs.

    Many thanks to all the people associated with the R28 project. This was a group of dedicated folks and he didn't think things could have gone any smoother than they did.

    With expression of appreciation on behalf of the EO/EG & ETHOX Team for the excellent maintenance support provided by Robert Puckett and his Crew. The safe, efficient work displayed by all the Mundy support groups was outstanding and as the spokesman for a 'truly satisfied Customer' said they looked forward to working with Mundy in 1998.

    Greg Rowell (DuPont) congratulated the PQM and all of MICI for an outstanding year in the welding room. This shop has made 26,594 weld and x-rayed 2,932. The total repair rate on these welds was .008%.

    Dante Estevez commended the Mundy Utility Crew for the excellent job of cleaning the hazardous waste vessels at the B.O.D. unit. The work was tedious and had to be performed wearing protective suits and breathing air. The long hard hours worked under these conditions were very much appreciated.

    J.S. Gullett noted that the cooperation was exceptional, in both operations and construction, in both operations and construction. From planning to start-up the project was a success due to the effort and commitment of the Mundy personnel involved.

    Appreciation to everyone involved in the Acrylate Bridging Project which required Mundy employees to perform extra duties, some of them for the first time. This work was performed in order to optimize acrylates line operations by 'bringing in', blending and segregating products over a two year time period. Bob Pongetti said this was "truly a 'Herculean' accomplishment and Mundy employees have a right to be proud of their efforts!"

    Billy Willingham complimented the recommendation that the west loading car access folding ramps' structural support members should be installed differently than the original drawing configuration. The structural integrity was not compromised, nor were the existing items under the rack in need of any modification. Their suggestions saved both time and money.

    Ed Thomas said, "Thanks for a job well done!", commenting on the rebuilding of the CYC Sidestream Stripper Column. The Technical Assistance, Planning & Mechanical crews worked long hours to complete the job safely and efficiently.

    Scott Bevan stated that Mundy's, "focus and workmanship was incredible with a special emphasis on safety, quality and productivity, which truly put these words into action."

    Charlie W. Johnston congratulated the entire Ammonium Sulfate Crew for improving quality, while meeting a rapidly growing number of shipments. A 50% increase in shipments with a 90% reduction in complaints.

    York Linebarger appreciates for the excellent support provided by Kenneth Boudreaux and his crew during the unplanned EA shutdown last June.

    Johnny Cantu recognized the Mundy Crew for all their hard work on the last line one turnaround. Their dedication and extra efforts saved at least a couple of days of downtime.

    Ramiro Le La Paz Jr., commented on the outstanding job performed by the Mundy personnel on the Labor Day weekend work in the APAP unit. He noted that a major task was accomplished safely and timely. The crew was the "Cream of the Crop!"

    On July 5th the entire manufacturing site experienced a power outage, causing a complete shutdown. All Mundy crafts were involved in the turnaround. Three other Mundy jobsites supplied trained craftsmen, who responded splendidly. Over 30,000 man-hours were complete without any injuries during the 4 week outage.

    Caroline Reda - Congratulations go to The Mundy Companies. As our partners in working safely, we are glad to have Mundy on our team. Mundy (at this facility) is the only VPP Star resident contractor in the state!

    Steven L. Giles - The normal cycle time for this overhaul is 21 days. The cycle time for this overhaul will be about 15 days. The Mundy Companies have played a key in completing this major effort. I really believe it wouldn't have been possible without the support of the Mundy leadership and mechanics.

    Brenda Lindsey - Your prompt response to our needs and your willingness to get the needed resources was extraordinary. I truly appreciate your personal sacrifices and those of the people who work for you, please pass this on to your organization.

    Dale Gay came up with an idea to reduce the time required to repair reactors. Dale and five Mundy employees completed the job in 7-days. This saved $38,640 in labor and $34,650 in raw materials per reactor. Three reactors have been rebuild and completed for a combined savings of $219,870 with the potential to save a total of $880,000.

    The Seaford Dupont Plant's P-A System was in need of replacement. A Mundy electrical technician kept the system working and a savings of $800,000 by employment of Mundy electricians for both design and labor performed.

    The Mundy Companies would like to thank all employees' that have served on the 2000 Safety and Health committee. The inspections and audits became a valuable asset to insure high safety standards. Through your commitment, this site has become a safer place to work.
